Eternal life vs Everlasting life

Many at times Christians are taught Eternal life as everlasting life. However, I want to state categorically that Eternal life and Everlasting life are two different types of lives. To explain, let's go back to Genesis. You may remember when Adam ate the fruit in the garden and realized he was naked. That change in his nature was the experience of death. But what life did he lose? He lost Eternal life which is the nature of God. However, after that God said let us not let him eat from the tree of life and live forever. So God prevented Adam from eating from the tree of life because he didn't want him to have Everlasting life after he had lost Eternal life.

So what then is eternal life? When Jesus taught Eternal life he said " And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3 So eternal life is simply knowing God and Jesus Christ. if I leave it at that it will not be different from you reading the scripture yourself so let me explain. so eternal life is knowing God and Jesus in a way that transforms you to become like them; until you start sharing the same nature with both of them. Note that eternal life is the life that describes content (what you are made off). In line with that Jesus speaking of the devil said " for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;" John 14:30 By that statement Jesus was saying that there was nothing in His nature that the devil could identify with.

On the other hand, Everlasting life is simply life that does not end. Now based on Bible understanding, we all should know that all life is everlasting; just that for men, there is a time that they separate from their body on earth. so you see that all men live everlasting just that it's not all on earth. so what did Jesus say about everlasting life? Jesus said: " Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. John 8:51 Remember that after man sinned his body became corrupt so his body was bound to depreciate until it returns to dust. so by Jesus bringing everlasting life to us, God is in the business of removing corruption from our body through the process of revitalization so our body is able to hold our spirit on earth forever. By this, you realize that when the bible says Jesus laid down his life for us, the life he laid down was everlasting life and not eternal life because had he laid down his eternal life he would have died as a sinner

Note: so while eternal life deals with the content (our spirit and soul), everlasting life deals with the container (our body). Also while eternal life comes by knowledge, everlasting life comes by obedience.
