How did selfishness which is an evil spirit in the world find itself on the pulpits of the church? Although there are many areas where selfishness could be spotted, the concept of forgiveness for me emerges the most. The teaching of forgiveness in the church is simple. "How many times should I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus said, "I tell you not just seven times but seventy-seven times!" Forgive each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. wow! To me, this is very simple to understand. However, as we go out to teach the church we are met with the multiplication of wickedness that causes the love of many to wax cold. Thus it's now becoming difficult for people to forgive; even in church. Then suddenly the scientists come up with a new discovery that shows that unforgiveness could lead to personal pain or ill health. so the world's way of dealing with forgiveness changes and word goes out that forgiveness is good for you. even if you didn't want to do it for the sake of the other person do it for yourself. If it had stayed in the world it would not have become my concern. But then the church also picked it up and on one pulpit to the other, we started hearing forgive and free yourself from bondage. Hence, forgiveness is now active in church again glory to God but at the expense of Love for one another. so now church folks no longer forgive their brothers because they love them but they forgive their brother for their own sake. What is the use of obeying God with a spirit that is not of God? Don't you know God's will is not just based on what you do but much more on the spirit by which you do it? So you who now forgive out of selfishness do you now tell us now that Jesus forgave us not because he had compassion for us but that He was just trying to save his own Neck? I leave that for you to answer.
